According to a recent analysis in the New England Journal of Medicine, Avandia may cause a 43% increase in the risk of heart attack. GlaxoSmithKline's own analysis of Avandia showed that the medicine increased the risk of heart attacks by a third.
An editorial in the New England Journal of Medicine asserts that there is no compelling reason for Avandia to be prescribed, and calls for the FDA to take action.
